- The microprocessor allowed thousands of transistors to be on a single chip on a single integrated circuit. This was a huge change, since before, computers were built with stacks of circuit boards with a mess of medium and small integrated circuits.

- The increases in microprocessor capacity has rendered many other forms of computers obsolete. Since microprocessors could be used in everything from the smallest systems to the largest supercomputers, this single invention marked a new era in computers, and the end of another one.

- Beyond computers, microprocessors have connected items that were traditionally not computer-related. Car keys, small household appliances, and cars all contain microprocessors. The microprocessor is arguably responsible for the increases in connectivity between our daily lives and computers.
