29 nov 1864 ano - The Sand Creek Massacre

Descrição:

Orchestrated by John M. Chivington in November, 1864, the Sand Creek Massacre was one of the most deplorable acts committed against native people by the U.S. government. Black Kettle, a Cheyenne chief, set up a meeting by Sand Creek to arrange peace between his people and the U.S. military, and flew both American and white flags to symbolize truce. Feeling safe after this, the camp was left almost entirely unprotected, and Chivington came in with 700 militia, killing over 150 Native Americans, mainly women and children. Many of the dead were horrifically mutilated.
