The Agreement said simply:
1. Ireland should be one country
2. The people of Ireland can call themselves Irish or British
3. A multiparty assembly will be elected to govern
4. There will be a North and South Council
5. All people should have basic human rights
6. A gradual reduction of British troops
7. Work towards having an unarmed police force
8. All political prisoners released as long as there is ceasefire
