18 h 13 m, 26 dez 2019 ano - Exposure to Political Graffitti

Descrição:

On Thursday, I went to Toronto and while walking downtown I noticed political graffiti on the side of a building. The graffiti consisted of the words “Stop Kony,” and a silhouette of a man. The graffiti was most likely from the Kony 2012 era and created in protest to Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony’s human rights violations. This event concerns the cultural/societal and political factors of globalization. The Kony 2012 movement originated in Uganda where human rights violations were occurring, from there it expanded into Western countries through the media and news. Without communication with those in Uganda through the media and an awareness of global issues, the artist in Canada behind the graffiti would not have been able to protest against Kony. The event also had political implications as the US restricted arms trade through an arms embargo with Uganda during the Kony 2012 movement.
