On Thursday I used the social media app Snapchat to text one of my cousins in Atlanta, Georgia. This event is an example of the cultural/societal factor of globalization. Snapchat is a social media app that has the unique factor of the “Snap Map,” the map icon will take you to a map with the locations of people in your area and their recent snaps. Also, there is the option to zoom out of your area and view (public) snaps that people around the globe have posted. Through the map function, users can see what is happening in other parts of the world.
In addition, many advertisers choose to advertise on Snapchat due to the large amount of Snapchat users. This event relates to the cultural factor of globalization as on the app, users are exposed to competing advertisements and marketing, the app allows communication with any other user at any time and increases awareness of global issues.
