They find their families traped in cage with no visible way out except one that is heavily gaurded. They also found Willaim around the cage with Oskar and Ferdies younger brother. Oraton-Marr's slaves break through the ice and find the Orm's egg chamber filled with water. Oraton-Marr calls for the Pathfinders to be sent down because according to the secret pathfinder history that he learned from Aunt Mitza some of them may have gills to breathe underwater that can only be discovered by almost drowning. First it was supposed to be Oskar and Ferdie's parents but then someone volunteers which turns out to be Dan Tod's father who didn't actually drown but was tricked by Aunt Mitza and captured. He dives down into the egg chamber and Tod dives in after him. They both discover that they have the gills to breath underwater and with no choice but to do as asked take the Orm egg back up to Oraton-Marr.
