The Message Rats is the way the Castle inhabitants send messages to eachother in and around the surronding area of the castle. The Rat Office recieves a summons from the palace to go get a message. The rat leaves Stanley is a friend of the Queen and head of the Message Rat Service takes the summon himself even though he is old and has bumblefoot. His son Moe goes after him to make sure he is alright but along they way they are almost eaten by garmins but they make it to the Castle all right. Moe then has his dad stay and rest at the castle while he takes the message to the Wizard Tower along the way he is again attacked by garmins but escapes with the loss of an arm. Florence Stanley's daughter takes a similar message to Tod that Moe took to the Wizard Tower and ask Tod to find out what happened to her family.
