Norwegian King, Harald Hardrada, was defeated and died at the battle of Stamford bridge against Harold Godwinsson, the English king. This was one of the largest defeats in Viking history and is considered the end of the Viking age. Although, the Vikings did not die out, but mixed with other cultures they settled in.
