ENIAC was the first electronic general-purpose computer. The American military sponsored this research because it needed a computer for calculating artillery-firing tables, the settings used for different weapons under varied conditions for target accuracy. It was invented in February 15, 1946 by John Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert.
