The U.S. orchestrated a coup in Iran to overthrow a democratically elected Prime Minister in favor of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who would better serve the U.S.'s interests. His rule as part of a dynasty that would ultimately not serve Iran well led to the coup of 1979.
