Hernán Cortés was a Spanish conquistador who wanted to conquer the Aztec empire, and succeeded. Although Emperor Moctezuma II died on June, 1520, it wasn't until August 13, 1521, that Hernán Cortés captured the last ruler of the Aztecs, Cuauhtémoc, and ended the Aztec empire permanently.
