Italian sailor Christopher Columbus finds America inadvertently, thinking it was India. He wanted to reach India sailing west, but instead found the Bahamas and America. He named the people the Indians. Columbus died believing that he found a water route to Asia, and Amerigo Vespucci eventually found his error. This discovery led to the colonization of the Caribbean and United States.
