Priscus and Verus were a pair of tough gladiators famous for their battle in the Flavian amphitheatre (colosseum). This the was one of the first ever battles in the colosseum which drew huge crowds. The poem ‘On the Public Shows of Domitian’ written by Roman poet Martial, immortalised the fight. This battle was extremely unique as both gladiators were declared victorious and set free by the emperor.
