This law banned discrimination based on race, color, sex, religion, or national origin. Upon pressure from various civil rights agencies, it was signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson in Washington D.C. It was a result of the strong advocacy of the Civil Rights Movement. It had the impact of fostering for greater equality to African Americans.
