Ancient writers believed we could see things through invisible beams of light that emanated from the eyes. The 11th Century scientist, Ibn al-Haytham researched optics and the anatomy of the eyes. He went on to write a new explanation of optics in the Book of Optics, this would be considered the most important research in the field for hundreds of years.
