Germany launched its aerial offensive on the UK. This is significant because Britain was an Empire, therefore pitting them into war meant that Australia, New Zealand, South African, South Rhodesia and other African territories were being involved too. They all recieved training in Canada, but more importantly this Battle implied an expanded war because it was a matter of continents and not just countries. Canada was also among 12 other countries who sent pilots with missions to protect the island, which also signified the development if aircraft warfare.
