This was a humiliating peace treaty for the Germans. They were not even allowed to attend the conference.
They had to take all the blame for the war. They had to pay reparations of £6.6 million to the allies.
Germany lost 13% of it's land, including Alsace-Lorraine to France and regions on the east side of the country to Poland. It also lost all overseas colonies. Many of these regions were important industrial areas for Germany, limiting its ability to pay the reparations.
The military was also affected. The army was limited to 100 000 men and only 15 000 sailors. The airforce was disbanded and they only had 6 battleships. The Rhineland was demilitarised and occupied by the Allies.
The Nazis believed they had been "stabbed in the back" meaning it was the fault of their own people who made them lose. This included communists within Germany and Jews.
