This case asserted the power of the national government to control interstate commerce. The case ruled that States cannot interfere with the federal government's right to regulate interstate commerce. This case also freed all navigation from monopoly control. This is a situation that gives the federal gov't more power and sets a precedent for future cases similar to this. States cannot interfere with the nat gov's right to regulate interstate commerce.
