Descrição:

The First Baptismal Font
“There are two stories that explain the first baptismal font. “Under the wood shed as the cornerstone thereof is a huge rock. This boulder was rounded and a large hole in the center chiseled out by the Indians and was used by them for the grinding of corn.” The second story suggests that the boulder was found and brought up from the river. There are many boulders around the five islands that were chiseled out by the currents and can be found in the river today. For years, this served as the baptismal font in the church, and when the sacrament was to be administered, the sexton would roll this huge rock in and out of the church. It is believed that this very same boulder sits outside the entrance door today.”

There are two things of significance that excites our congregation.
• Our 150th anniversary celebration 1868-2018.
• Over 45 priests and supply clergy toiled during trying times with very little, to no, funds. When there were no ordained clergy available at St. Thomas, lay readers filled in with Morning Prayer. Through God’s grace “the little church on the hill” persevered and survived. Praise be to God!
