The Brown Box was a prototype of the Magnavox Odyssey, and began being developed in 1968. The Brown Box was different to other consoles because instead of using removable media such as cartridges, the games were saved on the console, and by using patterns of flipping switches the players could select the game they wanted to play. The graphics of the Brown Box were simple, and consisted of dots on the TV screen. The games on the Brown box were played using TV covers instead of actual graphics.
