The Second Great Awakening begins, kicking off another round of protestant evangelism and increased church membership. In part spurred by revivals in Europe, this religious revival was heavily influenced by new Romantic ideas and ideas conceived during the awakening would find their way into future ideas and movements such as the Social Gospel. (Effect: resurgence of revivals and church membership in the U.S.)
