Terrorists, in a scheme strategized by Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, hijacked four planes and crashed them into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania. This was the deadliest attack ever on American soil and generated a mass outrage, as well as what George W Bush named the “War on Terror.” Just one month after this attack, the Office of Homeland Security was created as a counter-terrorism agency dedicated to protecting the U.S. from terrorist threats.
