Landi Kotal needed to be reinforced, however, the mobilisation process had only just begun and at that stage there was only one battalion available for this, so on 7 May the 2nd Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry[19] were brought up clandestinely through the Khyber Pass aboard a convoy of 37 lorries.
