In the middle of the 15th century, Portugal started kidnapping people from African and enslaving them back at home. This was the beginning of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, which depopulated the African continent massively, made European nations get ahead of everyone else, and was one of the main causes as to why Africa is so far behind other continents today, and why most of its countries are considered third-world.
