Nov 15, 1884 CE - Feb 26 1885 CE The Berlin Conference was sparked after King Leopold’s actions in the Congo by creating the Congo Free State. The conference had 13 European nations and the U.S. and sought to regulate European trade and colonization in Africa. It marked the beginning of the Scramble for Africa, in which many European nations raced to control as much African land. (5.2)
