The Instituto Federal Electoral, now the Instituto Nacional Electoral, was founded in 1990 as a result of constitutional reforms in 1989 and the passing of the Federal Code of Electoral Institutions and Procedures. It is an autonomous public organization that organizes elections, specifically the Presidential elections and the elections for the Lower and Upper chamber of the Congress of the Union. This organization is led by Lorenzo Vianello.
