The Trojan War was hugely important to the Greeks in the later part of their history, though for much of the history following the Greeks both the city of Troy and the war itself were regarded as fiction until the discovery of Troy in the mid 19th century. While there is still no archeological evidence of a war taking place within the city, those who tend to believe ancient historians put the dates of the war from 1260 BC to 1180 BC.
