- u.s. advantages = tech and geography
- massive retaliation = if soviets become aggressive, then u.s. will drop atomic bombs/ deterrence strategy
- brinkmanship = willingness to go to the brink of war and then the enemy will back away --> applies mainly to japan and w.euro
- collective security = sign treaties w/ countries to deter soviets
- military advisors sent to help allies
- rolling back communism = remove communism from countries/ propaganda to countries behind iron curtain
- CIA: sabotage, assassianation, etc to undermine the iron curtain and rollback communism
