Ammaron did not keep the records very long. Fifteen years after he took possession of the records the Spirit of the Lord told Ammaron to conceal the records. So, he took them and hid them in the hill called Shim, in the Land of Antum.
We are not given a full explanation as to why Ammaron hid the records, but it is likely due in large part to the wickedness of the people. It seems that the people had continued to grow in wickedness and that there were so few faithful left that the records were threatened.
