With so many joining the church it seems that the central leaders of the church were unable to keep false understandings and doctrines from creeping in. It seems that there were a significant number of people who began to teach that the Law of Moses had been fulfilled and there was no more need to observe it. However, when Nephi and the other leaders managed to get things in order they quickly corrected this error. We are told that they did so through an appeal to the scriptures, which seems to have easily settled the matter.
