1501 CE - 1722 CE The Safavid Empire was founded by Shah Ismail who conquered major parts of the Middle East. The empire imposed Twelver Shiism and it was imposed on Sunni’s with force. The empire foccussed on the religious movement of Shiism by conquering surrounding areas and imposing the religion onto their populace. (4.3)
