An informal agreement made between Italy's foreign minister Galeazzo Ciano linked fascist Germany and fascist Italy together. The alliance provided Italy support in case of a major war, and an end to its political isolation. For Germany it meant that her south boundary was protected. The alliance released German troops for use in other occupations of the military.
