30 out 1547 ano - The beginning of the Portuguese Slave trade (mid 15th century C.E.)

Descrição:

The Portuguese slave trade began in the mid 15th century and began with slave raids in Kongo. The use of African slaves was extremely appealing, and thus the high demand for them began. The Portuguese began trading with local authorities, usually trading weapons and luxury items in exchange for slaves. This soon got out of hand, and the Africans were unsuccessful in limiting the number of slaves being exported from their realms. They also began trading with the people of Ndongo, as the slaves were cheaper. Nzinga attempted to limit the amount taken in many agreements, but the Portuguese consistently took more slaves forcefully. (4.1, 4.3)
