Before the immigration act, Australia was split into six colonies of New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia, Victoria, and Queensland. even though they were on the same continent they were run like they were different countries. throughout the uniting of the six colonies there were lots of fights and disagreements in 1900 there was an agreement for federation but Britan still continued to control Australia.
