With high influx of Chinese immigrants, xenophobia grew among the white population. Following repeated pleas by the state governments and citizens, the Chinese Exclusion Act was signed. This act forbade Chinese Immigration and required them to leave the United States. This event represents Politics and Power because the government passed a law based upon societal feelings toward a particular group of people.
