William Golding began his career s a teacher in Cornwall, England. During World War II he served in the navy. His first and most famous novel "Lord of the Flies" tells how a group of English schoolboys try to survive on a desert island after a plane crash.
His books deal with the struggle between good and evil. Golding was awarded the Noble Prize in 1983.
