Nadine Gordimer has spent her whole life in South Africa and strongly opposed apartheid and censorship. In her works, she focuses on complex human tensions and her novels contains characters from different racial backgrounds.
Apart from novels like "My Son's Story" (1991) and "The House Gun" (1998) she has written about 15 collections of short stories. She was awarded the Noble Prize in 1991.
