1 jan 1863 ano - Emancipation Proclamation

Descrição:

Emancipation Proclamation- January 1, 1863

After the Civil War started, President Lincoln carefully contracted a plan concerning slavery. Although he personally didn’t like the practice of slavery, he knew that the Northern states and especially the North border states would have a hard time abolishing slavery. But, as thousands of slaves fled the South and came to the North to join the Northern armies, Lincoln concluded that abolition might be the best option. After the victory at Antietam, Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, that declared that as of January 1st, 1863, all slaves in the rebellious states were forever free. While the Proclamation didn’t free a single slave, it was a huge turning point in the war, turning the war into a battle for human freedom.
