28 maio 1830 ano - Indian Removal Act
Descrição:
Indian Removal Act- May 28, 1830
Once Andrew Jackson was president, he forced all of the Native Americans living in the East part of America to up and leave their land they were previously given to settle on. Jackson gave them new land in Oklahoma and forced them to get to the land by foot. The Cherokee created their own language, schools, plantations, towns, constitutions, etc. With all of the money they earned by having their plantations, they bought land legally. They owned the land they were living on. But, gold was found on their land, so the Indian Removal Act forced them to leave and move to the reservation. About 16,000 Cherokee people refused to leave their land, obviously angry with the situation. When Jackson hears of this, he sends military troops in and forced them to pack up their things and walk from Georgia to Oklahoma. Around 8,000 people died on the way there.
