Louisiana Purchase- December 1803
This purchase in 1803 gave the US 828,000 miles of land, which was bought from France. This purchase doubled the amount of land the US had already owned, and they bought the land for very cheap, 15 million dollars. Each acre of land was around 1 cent per acre! The US added part or all of 15 states to their country. This land stretched from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains and from Mexico to Canada. In December 1803, France transferred the land over to the US. The purchase of this land is considered to be one of the largest land deals ever, and one of the most important thing Thomas Jefferson did in his presidency.
