Some long term causes of Chinese Civil War was that it was the fourth of may movement. There was growth of nationalism and communism and growth of the Chinese Communist Party 1927. Short term causes would be the 1926 Northern Expedition, Jiang Jieshis attack on the Communists, and the communists survival and resistance. Initially, the war was a struggle by a minority party to survive an onslaught from the army of the established government of China. Resources were very unbalanced. They had air power and heavy artillery. Heavy artillery and tanks were deployed by the nationalists, and the use of technology to construct extensive systems of blockhouses was a feature of the Encirclement Campaigns. War fought between the communists and the Japanese offered the chance to portray Mao Zedong as a true patriot. In propaganda, Mao Zedong made himself look like he was a supporter of women and wanted to aim for peasant justice and freedom. Red Army developed an image as being heroic in battle.
