In 1895, Italian inventor and engineer Guglielmo Marconi created the very first radio or long distance wireless telegraph. In 1902, he broadcast the first transatlantic radio signal, successfully ending the isolation of ocean travel and saving hundreds of lives including those from the Titanic. The radio was not only key to communicating across seas for war, trade, and political communication, but it later became a daily part to many United States citizens. On August 31, 1920, the very first radio broadcasting took place by Lee De Forest. It soon became famous and people from across the nation would listen in on the “sound factory” for everyday entertainment.
