Descrição:
The cotton gin was invented by Eli Whitney. It was a machine that revolutionized the production of cotton by quickly removing seeds from the cotton fiber in mass bulks. This machine allowed cotton to become America’s leading-most export bringing lots of money into the United States. This was good, but the machine allowed southern plantation owners to use even more slaves and slavery expanded. However, the labor was much more intensive than it was before the gin. All in all, the cotton gin allowed the cotton industry to greatly expand, making cotton a cash crop, lucrative business, and increased the number of slaves and slaveholders.
