Two brothers, Wilbur and Orville Wright, invented and flew the first airplane in the early twentieth century. It allowed Charles Lindbergh to fly his plane, the Spirit of St. Louis from America to Paris in the first transatlantic flight. Planes changed the world of travel as well as the world of combat— they were first used in World War I to spy on other nations and later on to drop missiles and bombs.
