On April 14th 1865, Abraham Lincoln was attending a play along with his wife and other members of his political association. During the play, one of the actors, John Wilkes Booth, climbed the stairs to where the president was sitting, and shot him in the back of head. Booth then fled the scene, and after a long manhunt, was cornered and killed at a barn in Virginia on April 26th. Lincoln would not survive the attempt on his life, and died the next day. Booth who was a sympathizer of the Confederacy, opposed many of Lincoln's ideas. After Lincoln died, Andrew Johnson, who was Lincoln's VP at the time of his death, became the president.
