The Cold war was a period of political and ideological turmoil between the communist Soviet Union and the capitalist United States. The United States feared that communism in Russia would spread to the world so they sought to contain communism by fighting it wherever it popped up. This lead to conflicts in Korea, Vietnam, and Cuba, although no conflicts happened between Russia and the United States. Both the US and the Soviet Union were afraid of each other’s nuclear arsenals.
