World War 1 was between the Allied and the Central powers and the United States was not involved until the late stages of the war. They were neutral until 1917 although the war began in 1914 and ended in 1918. American forces only participated in 2 major battle before the wars end but they nevertheless were on the winning side as the Allied Powers were victorious. The Americans did have a hand in the Treaty of Versailles which was a peace and reparations treaty that was extremely harsh on the German economy and also set up The League of Nations, a precursor to the United Nations.
