Reconstruction is the term given to policies and plans that federal government put forward to address the divisions that the civil war had created. The first was Lincolns Ten-Percent plan, which said that any state that pledge allegiance to the Union and agreed to become a free state would be admitted back into the Union after a vote was held and ten percent of the people agreed to these terms. There were many other reconstruction ideas that happened cross the country and in congress, but ultimately all of the plans failed. The South was admitted back into the Union but they were not cohesive with the North because the North was no longer interested in helping freed slaves and the Southern were becoming increasingly violent.
