Due to the fear of communism spreading, president Harry S. Truman created the Truman Doctrine on March 12, 1947. The Truman Doctrine established that the United States would provide political, military, and economic assistance to all democratic nations under threat from external or internal authoritarian forces. This doctrine was revolutionary at the time because it forced the U.S. to become involved in other foreign conflicts instead of observing like they had previously.
