The Edict of Nantes had granted Huguenots the right to religious freedom. It was revoked through the Edict of Fontainebleau, which was issued by King Louis XIV. The revocation led to a mass migration of Protestants out of France and made the Protestant countries that bordered France more hostile. Many Huguenots were skilled craftsmen, and so much of this talent was lost. Suck it, France.
